Professional EHC needs assessment request
The SEND Code of Practice (9.9 and 9.11) states that anyone can bring a child or young person who has or may have SEN to the attention of the local authority if they think an EHC needs assessment may be necessary. Once a child or young person has been brought to its attention the local authority must determine whether an EHC needs assessment is necessary and communicate their decision to the parent or young person within 6 weeks.
You can bring a child or young person to the attention of the local authority through the SEND portal. We have a template that you can use, with suggestions of the type of evidence that may be required.
This should be done with the knowledge and agreement of the child's parent or young person.
